Saving the Planet with Geothermal Heating Systems

Environmental friendliness is a major concern for many households around the world. As part of this effort, geothermal heating systems are a great way to help homeowners to reduce their carbon footprint, and hence, help the planet. Geothermal heating and cooling systems have been described as using the same systems applicable to caves.

Underground caves tend to have more moderate temperatures than the weather conditions on the Earth's surface. This cave-like system operates in the home through the use of a pump that brings 55 degrees of ground water through a heat pump. With the geothermal heating system, this heat pump then takes out heat from the water and resends the cooler water down into the ground. Whereas, in summer the process is reversed.
