Demand for Geothermal Heating Systems on the Rise
A Dallas-based research and consulting firm indicates that across the United States, HVAC contractors are showing a keen interest in learning about geothermal heating systems since a lot of schools and local governments have embraced this heat system technology. According to the firm, installations of geothermal heat pumps are expected to grow from 2.94 million units in 2010 to 5.66 million in 2015, which is a 14 percent increase!
School districts across the country have started embracing geothermal heating systems. The campuses that had installed the first ground source heat pumps (GSHP) in place of the convention electric Heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning systems (HVACs) have seen a 30-50 percent reduction in their energy costs. Heating systems powered by the geothermal heat pumps that were installed 18 years ago are still operating, have a 24 year life span, in addition to the fact that the wells are rated to last over 100 years.
